The U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has announced its newly elected members for 2025, and four distinguished fellows of the AAIA, Dorin Comaniciu, Alex Acero, Aydogan Ozcan, and Jón Atli Benediktsson, have been honored for their outstanding contributions to engineering.
Alex Acero (Sr. Director of Siri at Apple) was elected for leadership in research and development of spoken language technology.
Aydogan Ozcan (Chancellor’s Professor and Volgenau Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering, University of California, Los Angeles) earned the distinction for contributions to mobile sensing and telepathology for medical diagnostics.
Dorin Comaniciu (Senior vice president, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, Siemens Healthineers, Princeton, N.J.) was recognized for contributions to diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapy, leading to better diagnosis and treatment for numerous patients.
Jón Atli Benediktsson (Rector/president and professor, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Iceland, Reykjavík) was honored for contributions to design and application of advanced machine learning and morphological methods in information analysis of multisource sensing data. Election to the NAE is one of the highest professional honors in engineering.
Their work has significantly advanced healthcare, communications, and environmental monitoring, pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation.
